Folk Tales
This is a series of books that employ a structure called a Carousel. Carousels are basically three different accordion structures that have been sewn together on the peaks to make different layers of imagery. The top layer has a window cut in that reveals the other layers behind it, creating a kind of stage. The theatrical and pop-up nature of the Carousel structure lends itself naturally to the telling of tales. None of these books have words. Their subject matter is relayed through the imagery and the book form itself, and draws from the simplistic yet very dark nature of children's stories, folk tales and myths.
